extended weekend stay for Boris

Welcome Back, Boris!

Welcome back to the Hounds Hotels blog! We are absolutely delighted to share that our wonderful furry friend, Boris, has checked in and will be staying with us for a longer duration this time. We couldn't be happier to have him back for an extended holiday, and we are so excited to share his daily adventures with all of you!

Day 1: Kisses, Garden Antics, and the Great Squeaker Defeat

Boris arrived in high spirits, tail wagging a mile a minute! He came fully packed for his extended vacation with all his essentials: his favorite treats, dog food, bowls, poop bags, cozy bedding, and an impressive collection of toys. He immediately made his presence known, showering our team with lots of enthusiastic kisses and cuddles.

After the greeting committee finished, Boris made a beeline straight for the garden. We supervised him as he enjoyed a good play session and busied himself laying down his scent to claim his holiday territory. When Boris wants to play, he makes his intentions wonderfully clear! He was especially thrilled to unpack his absolute favorite toy—his squeaky ball. In true Boris fashion, it took him exactly three hours and 45 minutes of dedicated chewing to successfully "disarm" the squeaker!

Later in the afternoon, we headed out for a nice stroll. Boris was exceptionally well-behaved on his walk and was truly "good as gold." He met several other dogs along the way and was a perfect gentleman, walking calmly without a single bark.

After all that outdoor excitement, Boris was ready for some downtime. He happily retreated to his cozy bed to relax and snuggle up with a few of his toys (pictured above).

We rounded off a perfect first day with a delicious dinner. For our evening entertainment, we opted to listen to the radio together. As our regular readers will remember from a previous blog post, TV is strictly off-limits for Boris (you know why!). Before he knew it, a tired but very happy Boris was fast asleep, dreaming of tomorrow's adventures.

Day 2: Rainy Day Games and a Sopping Wet Pup!

When we woke up on Day 2, we had grand plans to take Boris for a scenic walk. Unfortunately, the weather had other ideas, and the heavy rain completely dashed our riverside plans! However, a little downpour never dampens the spirits here at Hounds Hotels.

We quickly switched gears and made sure Boris was thoroughly entertained. We spent the morning indoors playing all his favorite games, including some highly competitive rounds of tug-of-war and plenty of playing ball to burn off that boundless energy.

As it turns out, we didn't need to worry about the weather ruining his day, because Boris didn't mind the rain one bit—in fact, he absolutely loved it! He couldn't resist heading out into the downpour to visit his absolute favorite spot in the garden. He had a brilliant time braving the elements, getting thoroughly and spectacularly soaked in the process. It is safe to say we had a very happy, wet dog on our hands who thoroughly enjoyed a good towel-dry afterwards!

Day 3: A Little Rain Can’t Stop the Games

He started the morning glued to the window, watching the drizzle and willing the sky to clear. While it wasn't exactly a torrential downpour, it was just enough of that classic dampness to make the grass slick and the air chilly. But by mid-afternoon, Boris’s patience wore thin, and his polite stares turned into demanding tail wags. A bit of rain simply wasn't going to cancel Day 3's playtime.

We abandoned the warm radiator, I pulled on my wellies, and we headed out into the drizzle. Once those paws hit the grass, it was game on. We spent the next hour running through a highly competitive series of garden games:

I have to say, for a dog who just spent an hour tearing up a wet lawn like a rally car, Boris transforms into a perfect gentleman on the pavement. He was incredibly well-behaved on the lead the entire way there and back. What really impressed me, though, was his road sense. He didn't pull, he navigated the curbs like a pro, and he was completely unfazed by passing traffic.

It made the chore of popping to the shops in the drizzle actually quite enjoyable. It turns out he's a dog of two modes: a wild, mud-loving gremlin in the backyard, and a civilized, polite companion in public.

The Perfect Wind-Down

After our village excursion, it was finally time to dry off for good, kick off our shoes, and settle in for the evening. If the afternoon was all about high-energy terrier antics, the evening was all about pure affection.

We settled down on the sofa to watch some TV, and Boris quickly transformed back into a world-class lap dog. He was incredibly generous with the cuddles and kisses, completely melting away any lingering chill from the rainy walks. There is something profoundly comforting about a tired, happy dog snuggled up next to you after a busy day. Feeling thoroughly loved (and exhausted), we eventually called it a night and headed off for a well-earned, peaceful sleep.

Day 4: Early Morning Mysteries and Fond Farewells

Day 4 started bright and early! Boris was up and eager to head straight to his absolute favorite spot at the very top of the garden. We’re not entirely sure what mysterious scents or critters are up there, but there is obviously something at the top of the garden that sparks his interest every single time!

As the morning went on, I think our clever boy realized it was home time. Watching us gather up his bowls, bedding, and (now squeaker-less) toys must have given him a pretty strong inclination that his extended holiday was coming to a close.

As you can see in the lovely picture above, Boris spent his final moments with us sitting ever so patiently on our orange chair, looking handsome and waiting for his humans to arrive.

Here at Hounds Hotels, we have absolutely thoroughly enjoyed the company, the cuddles, and all the fun that Boris brings with him. He is always such a joy to have around, and we are already looking forward to his next stay!
